I first noticed that the rss feed would not display when I first started to import my posts from blogger. I had the display rss config set to 10. I figured that maybe my posts were to long and that was the problem so I set it to 5. Well, just yesterday I went to my feed and it was not displaying anything. So, again I figured it's my posts and some of the html formatting I use. I set the rss display config to 3. It works now. But, I thought I should mention it. I do not intend to make this an issue for the coming release as I don't want you to get burnt out Prit! Simply mentioning it.

However, I was doing some thinking. In firefox when one clicks the rss button or feed url it takes you to that page where everything is nice and (could be printable) except that firefox displays a box at the top asking what you would like to subscribe with. So my thought is would it be possible to display posts with the rss format without firefox showing this box ? My thinking is that could be a solution for easily printing of posts for users. You know they click on a printer friendly page link and it formats it the way pritlog displays rss feeds but individually. I'm thinking out loud one never knows...

Do you mean that when you set the number of RSS entries in Pritlog, as 10, it does not show correctly?

The suggestion about rendering the entry as an individual rss entry is good so that the print out of the entry will look good. This may be possible. I will add this to the suggestions for now. This is a good idea.

Actually, on one of my local server blog's, I had done an experiment where, one could click on any entry and a PDF would be generated from that entry. You could save or open and print it as PDF.

With my rss feed issue: nothing shows up. I'm thinking that either my blog posts are to long or that it is some of the html formatting I use??

As for your response to my thought. Exactly how in the world are you able to generate a pdf with php alone ? Or is this a firefox specific thing ? Actually, I'm very interested either way.

Ken, I want to take a look at the RSS message. Is it possible to show me by changing the RSS limits so that I can see when it shows no entry?

For PDF creation, there are a couple of PHP packages available that help us generate PDF with HTML alone. Using this class, we can add PDF. I am not sure if the libraries were light or heavy. I need to revisit and find out.

Alright. last post for the night. I have set the rss feed display config back to 5, it shows no errors only nothing. nothing to see, I'll leave it like this until you reply. I appreciate you looking into this you are a most kind person. Thank you once again for your continued effort to create a flat file blogging platform capable of competing with the best!

Thanks Ken. However, when I visited your RSS feeds link, it showed only 3 entries and they looked okay.

I also appreciate all your and others efforts in suggesting improvements, giving feedbacks and testing and reporting bugs. Without you all, there may never have been this forum or a next version of Pritlog.

Yes, it works with 3 at the moment. But, it appears you clicked in my rss feed before I made the change.I have set the config back to 5 so you should see nothing. Again, I started with 10, went down to 5 and now I am three though as of this moment for testing purposes i have set it back to 5.

No, you are looking at the correct url. But, you are also seeing the error that has been puzzling me. As I stated when I first began importing from blogger the config entry for rss was 10 & it worked. But, I clicked the rss url again much later on and nothing shows as it is now. So I changed the rss entry to 5 as I figured maybe my posts were to long. Well, I checked back on the the rss feed (keeping an eye on it) and found out that again it was not showing. This time I figured that it was some of the new formatting I was implementing. So I changed the rss config entry to 3 & it has been working.

I changed it back to 5 so that you can see what I was seeing & that is nothing, blank, nada.

My brain is saying that because of the length of my posts and a lot of the formatting I'm using is to much for the rss function and so it cannot handle all of the data. I don't know if that is the case or not but it's my best guess.

Okay.. this is starting to be weird, now it is showing at config entry 5... I have set it to ten again and now it is not showing.

I'm not for sure why this is happening. My only guess is that some of the posts may be to long.. I'll leave it set to ten and hopefully you will get to see what I'm seeing which is nothing.

I go to Firefox and your RSS link and can see 7 entries just fine this time.

The fact that it is showing 7 instead of 10 shows that I'm not making this up :) But, it's probably due to some of my posts being a bit longer than others. I'll just keep an eye on it & change it when it needs a changing no biggie.

Well, now it's really showing an error. and I believe it is the html format I'm using. It just started showing as an error as I have implemented a new quote block/thing.. I'm 100% sure now that the rss mishaps and errors are a result of some of the html I use & some of my posts are rather large. I'm not sure if the new rss (read more) will address this or not.

Well, the only solution I know is to quit using the html I have been.. Though that would make my posts bland. how to make pritlog rss function ignore the html is beyond me.. I dunno at this point. I'm gonna see if there is a php script that can create the feed.

Well, just take about 5 of my posts and put them in your /posts directory and you should be able to re-produce the error.
