That is exactly what I did in the end - set up a pup-save and copied over the sfs. Wow, what a quick startup!

When I get the chance I will download and try Dingo and post what happens in case anyone else with a 600X is struggling.

Thanks!

I dont know that much about Xorg to trouble shoot This. If it runs fine from the disc ,I would suggest not doing a install. Reformat the HD but when you run the disc use a pup-save file and also copy the pup-412.sfs to the hd.Use the disc to boot the computer , you can take the disc out as soon as the Desktop loads. The only othe think i bcan think of would be to try using macpup dingo.

I installed Macpup 412 on an old Thinkpad 600X. It worked perfectly when it was booted from CD, but when it boots from the hard drive it somehow can't start Xwindows properly, and never gets any farther than the X-shaped mouse pointer before dropping back to the command line. I've tried xorgwizard with different color depths, 16 and 24, and the "test" option _always_ works. However, when I then try to start Xwindows, it fails in the same way.

Tried two fresh installs, reformatting the hard drive each time, and also copying over the /etc/X11 files to the hard drive, with no luck.

Can you try the commands "top" or "free" and see the outputs. This would give the RAM used and available.

I suspect that it might be either due to lack of enough available memory to play or loading incorrect drivers being loaded.

I am no expert. You might be able to find better help from the Puppy forum.

Hello everybody, excuse my bad english...I installed MacPup Dingo on my old Thinkpad 600 (P II 266, 128 RAM) after trying some other small Linux distros. M.P. Dingo got installed perfectly and seems to run fast and clear, I still didn´t try to browse the internet because I need first to test music and video playing. After surfing the web for several days looking for a solution for the OS to recognize the soundcard I finnally did it and now I can hear audio perfectly but... a simple mp3 song jams and sound appears and desappears all time just like if the computer could't manage the file. I know the PC is powerful enough to play music and video because it did it running windows xp so, what's the problem? I can't play audio files correctly and not even open a video file (videos open for less than a second and then close) Could you please help me? Thank you
Luis
