Hi John ..

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Please keep posting. Don't be quiet. When I read these posts, I get ideas, or learn something new or get motivated to read more.

My experiment with performance:
I played around with increasing the performance using the YSlow firefox plugin. Finally, I was able to get a performance score of 100 (the best), but only some of the changes were to Pritlog. I had to tweak the htaccess and server setup to achieve the 100. Anyway, this was a good learning experience.

Now answers to your questions:
1. I have been motivated to read more on templating and plugins after one of your earlier posts. I have bookmarked tons of templating systems on my delicious. I am still reading. If I find any system or method that will not add bloat to Pritlog and that will enable us to use the templating system, I would want to include it before we reach 1.0

2. I think the above would answer this question as well.

3. Lol. As of now, this is my first venture into Sqlite. I have worked a lot with DB2 (on the mainframe) and some on MySQL. If we find that it needs any tweaking, then we would do that. Also, if we learn anything new to improve Pritlog, we can add it before it reaches 1.0.

I also very much appreciate all your support, ideas and testing for Pritlog. Without you all, we may not have reached 0.8 A1.

Prit,

Besides any performance tweaking left, its my overall impression that Pritlog SQLite is a success. Congratulations !

As you said when you released Alpha1, most pieces are in place, and in my opinion they work pretty well. I think you could proudly raise it to a Beta status unless you are planning to introduce some significant changes.

Its also my impression that due the code flow , achieving a complete separation between logic and presentation html would require a major rework, and at least in my case I don't expect to make use of such a template system, just want to tweak Pritlog's appearance the way I like and leave it there.

From a features perspective, Pritlog already offers -in its current state- most of the capabilities I would expect from a blogging script whose initial objective was to remain SIMPLE.

We could certainly discuss endless variations, but many of them would be a matter of personal needs or taste (like my preference to use fixed categories)

Prit, I'm very happy with Pritlog SQlite and plan to use it in a couple of live sites within the next 1-2 weeks; so I already started to modify a couple of functions to suit my own needs as I feel confident enough to handle most issues that might come across.

The 3 questions I have for you at this point:

1. what major changes -if any- do you plan to introduce before Pritlog gets to v1.0 ?
2. are you going to develop a template system or keep with the current logic flow ?
3. any other technical concerns you are aware and willing to share with your fans :) ?

I realy appreciate your openess to interact with all of us and keep listening (sorry for drilling your brain with endless posts, I promisse to keep more quiet from now :)

PD: I renamed my test blog directory, new link: http://enbaires.com/pritlog_test/

I have been trying to compare Pritlog with other simple blog apps like PPLOG to see how it scales in speed and performance. I was trying some website speed test tools and found that PPLOG was loading around 0.1 seconds faster than Pritlog. I tried removing several pieces of code, but still PPLOG kept winning. Finally when I removed the new shareme widget, Pritlog became as fast as and mostly faster than PPLOG.

Now I am using the YSlow firefox addon to find out how to speed up Pritlog. One major thing I have to work on is reduce the number of HTTP requests. I need to combine the javascript/css or make it inline. Also, try to make the shareme widget image files into a single file or maybe replace it with simple text shareme widget.

Along with being one of the smallest blog app's, I would love to have Pritlog as one of the fastest, best performing as well.

I have been using Wordpress for quiet sometime. When I started Pritlog, I still kept the wordpress one, but copied all posts over to Pritlog. I wanted to have Wordpress by the site for comparisons and for checking out the various new features they use.

I compared my Wordpress vs Pritlog installations with the same number of posts and similar low profile themes. This wordpress installation does not have many plugins enabled.

The average load time was:
Wordpress: 1.7 seconds
Pritlog : 0.7 seconds

Maybe the advantage that is in favor of Pritlog is the simple 1 file script, no MySQL, no theme/plugin engine etc. But this was impressive to me. I think, I will just shut down my wordpress installation completely.
