Just a heads up on Firefox 3.6 and Java. The old java plugin libjavaplugin_oji.so won't work anymore for Firefox 3.6 and up. It is still OK for Seamonkey 1.18 and Seamonkey 2.0. Also Firefox 3.5 and Iceweasel 3.5. Only Firefox 3.6 is affected.

My post below at
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=52011
explains what I did to fix it in Puppy 4 Dingo. I just got through fixing this in Macpup Foxy also. In Foxy all I had to do was open 2 rox file managers. In one of em. I manuvered to /usr/java/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so. In the 2nd file manager go to/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Delete the libjavaplugin_oji.so from the /usr/lib/firefox/plugins folder.
Then drag and drop libnpjp2.so from /usr/java/lib/i386 folder into /usr/lib/firefox/plugins folder and symlink it. Close everything. Go Test your Java. You will get a message that you don't have the latest and greatest. But the plugin is installed. This works for java jre6u10 on up. If any typos. I am still half blind yet. And I am posting on my little Asus with my big fingers. Happy Trails, Rok.

"When I was building Foxy I tried lots of themes and some of theme cause different apps to crash. Black fate was my fav. and it work well with everything until the grub installer .I have no idea why. I will look into it but You only need the installer once .Thank you very much again !"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK. I will follow that install tip as a way to get Foxy on a machine or two here to make Puppy look cooler.

OK , the problem isn't the installer, for some reason the black fate gtk theme is messing with it. To get around this boot Foxy into ram off the cd and change the theme .Go to menu-desktop-Chtheme GTK theme chooser and change it from Black-fate to default or one of the other theme and apply then ok .The apps will look very different. After that run the installer and all should go fine. I have had friends do it. After the reboot the installed version will be back to black -fate and everything should work.

Thank you! I took Foxy to work today and added it to a Compaq laptop and got the same results. Expert Grub menu only, and no install, just a return to the grub options menu repeatedly.

Looking forward to having Foxy to use here at the recycler's.

What I think happened ,and this is just a guess. When you wiped the drive it didnt get the mbr . When you ran the installer in foxy it picked that up ,so it thought you where setting up a multi boot system cause 412's grub was still there ,thats why it would only let you have the expert option. You where able to access, or reinstall, it with 412 cause that's what installed it.
I have seen stuff like this before over at linuxfourms.org where people have removed a distro and grub was still in the mbr after they wiped the drive.
I have some friends that are doing installs of Foxy ,when I hear back form everyone I will have a better idea of what happen to you.It may be that things got messed up during your download.
I am posting this link for others to look at that might need help with installing Foxy it is for the puppy 4 I dont think anything has changed for 412 and that is what foxy 2 is.

And, no there's no multi-boot setup. I'm thinking some of the code for Puppy Installer got dropped?
Particularly the grub script? Before the wipe I had 4.1.2 on the drive, but I DBANed the drive to
remove the pupsave and grub from the MBR.

Hello, runtt21. This was on a wiped drive. I want to spread this Puppy around so if you can investigate and fix that bug I'd be grateful and donate to your cause again for the Pup. Otherwise I have to reboot to livepup 4.1.2 to get a working grub config.

"Had a problem getting grub config to run in anything but Expert Mode, AND fail to allow an install of grub config."

I have never done a install like that with foxy,I run it off the disk with a pup save.I can tell you that I didn't change anything with the puppy installer, it should be the same as the one in puppy 4.1.2..

BUT thank you very much for taking our newest pup for a spin!!!!

I just read a note on my blog on puppy.org about this newest MacPup: Foxy.
As expected, I love it!

Had a problem getting grub config to run in anything but Expert Mode, AND fail to allow an install of grub config. To fix it, I put the Puppy 4.1.2 disc in and used that to create the boot menu in the MBR that let me start Foxy. I assume you know about this? Or did I just get a bad iso D/L?

Thanks for another cool Pup! As before, I'll be donating to this cause, soon as a little spare cash comes my way.
