Once you decide what apps you use the most you either add then to the favorites menu or put them on the shelf. Then you wont need to run through the apps menus. The menus are the way e17 works. You can change them. The text size is controlled by the theme. On a netbook you need to find a older style theme like smoke that has bigger fonts. I personally dont keep systray on the shelf . I only put it there when I need to check the save file. E17 has a wlan module just load it and add it to the shelf.I use it all the time.

I dont really understand what you are asking about "bits of software that seemed to ahve installed themselves in seperate folders on the usb "

Where did you get "Kontact" and what is it?

Been dipping my toe in Linux for a little while, and recently came across comments about HP Mini 2133 netbook, which I use recommending Macpup.
Its fast on the HP and I like that.
There seem to be so many menus and boxes popping up all over. Are all of these menus related to E17 or are some likely to be from other elements of the system.
I'm not used to digging around and altering things and currently running on Linux Live USB stick till I've ironed things out.
Is there any ways to make menu text larger?
I'm used to Linux Mint, Is there a way to get to something more like their menu, though I do like the bottom bar except for the white background on the extra bit with the wifi and storage icon and others that I found to add somewhere.
Finally, using the Linux Live, is there a menu option in MacpupI would use to install successfully accessing everything including the bits of software that seemed to ahve installed themselves in seperate folders on the usb stick probably big pet or SFS(?) installs I did.
Oh and back to menus I tracked down Kontact (yes I guess its a million times bigger than osmo but I liked the look of it, but its not in menus and Ideally I may even want to add to a shelf) I found some search tools and can find a location but nothing happens when clicked on.
Thanks I hope not too much is off topic

Just so you will know The only terminal in macpup is root terminal.Macpup is a single user system. You are Root all the time. There is no su or sudo in macpup. If you go to the /usr/share/applications folder in rox ( macpup's file manager) All you need to do is right click on an icon and select open as text.

What you say will work for individual apps but for categories you need to look in the xdg menus

I know this is an old post but I have been looking for a simple answer to the menu adjustment in e17 for a couple of days and this blog is on top of my search today. I found out a couple of interesting things just fishing around....

You can edit the menu listing using a root terminal in /usr/share/applications/... and only with a root terminal. The weird thing is, you can only see the menu desktop files using your terminal. If you use the file manager or whatever, all you see are the icons as launchers NOT the files themselves and they are not accessible that way. Strange! and the other thing is, the first letter of the names of the files are capitalized using a file manager. If you ls in terminal you see the names are all lower case and end with .desktop. Just sudo gedit or nano the file in the terminal and change the "Category=" to wherever you want the launcher to appear on your menu. I used other .desktop files for a guide. If you simply remove whatever is after "Category=" the item appears in "other" on your menu. If you remove, or as I did move the file to another folder for safe keeping (if you ever decide you want it later) then it disappears completely from the menu. It's pretty easy. I just don't get why they are trying so hard to hide it. It's almost as if someone just wants to make it difficult for fun.

Hope any of you who are new to e17 and looking for answers on editing stuff find this a good starting place.

Now there's a good start, thanks runtt21.
The titles do change, and the effect is immediate.

Also the command line options work. For example;
Exec=rxvt -bg black -fg green
(can't believe anyone can stand a white terminal)

Now how to change the menu order....

The menu's in macpup foxy runs off the xdg menus, the e17 menus update themselves when you add something. In this version of E17 you can't really update /regenerate the menus. The only way I can think of to change a apps menu entree is to open the .pet before you install it and change it. What you can do is use the add new app option and change the name and the icon there but the original menu listing wont change.

I like Macpup running Enlightenment E17 very much.
It does the things I want and runs the way I need a PC to run.

But, I'm kinda picky about menu layout and the titles in them.
So far, I haven't discovered how to edit the menu content the way
I could in Puppy 4.12 (in the .jwmrc file).

I've used the Config Panel tool & can add/remove in Favorites Menu,
but not change the names. No obvious way to edit the Applications
Menu either.

Where is E17 getting the Application titles from?
Has anyone else done this or know where the config files are?
