@wmichaelb Tempestuous, over at the puppylinux forum has told me :

"It looks like the rtl8180 driver is not playing well with wpa_supplicant.
First I suggest you update to the latest version of the Network Wizard from here
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=295280#295280"

"If still no success, revert to manual wifi configuration commands, and especially refer to
"PART 4: Troubleshooting, encryption problems"
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=159339#159339"

That whole thread deals with setting up wifi from the commandline.

I have the same problem with intel 3945 wifi driver also as wmichaelb. Strange is, that I couldn't connect by wired eth0 rtl8139+ too. After scanning, it finds the network all the 4 given tools (network wizard, network wizard old, pwireless, roaring penguine), but if I add the wep/wpa key the result is always "no show", and couldn't step through. I have made network connections in puppy several times, but in macpup this gives me real pain. I think, this is the ONLY key thing in puppy what I don't like, and prevent me and other guys to drop Fedora/*buntus at our forum at linuxempire.hu.

However. There are great pro tools, like the p*-tools (pburn, and such), but making network under puppy prevents the breakthrough. If the distro gets one alternate unified step by step setup tool of the 4, or setup box then this could by a revolution. I think this is the real problem by the other setups too. You must use multiple setups to get through your settings. Why can't be only for each setup-sequence one box, one tool?

Thanks,

Zoltan

Sorry but I have never used wifi so I cant really give you an answer . The puppy linux forum is down right now .When it come back up I would suggest looking there. Opera is based on puppy 4.2 with the newer kernel . Wifi is one of the biggest issues with puppylinux .

Hi, I'm currently running Xubuntu on a Toshiba Satellite 1805-S204. It's a bit slow, I'm running Puppy on another machine, and I tried to run MacPup Opera, but I can't get the wireless card to connect. I simply follow the directions as I work through the Wizard/Wizard for connecting to the internet via LAN/Wireless. My card uses the RealTek 8180 chip, and MacPup successfully loads the RTL8180 driver included with the iso; but when I try to connect, the attempt times out, and I get an error message:

access point: not associated
link quality: 0
output of 'wpa_cli -i wlan0 status'
wpa_state=scanning

I know that there have been bugs in the Linux RTL8180 driver before. The driver in the current Xubuntu setup is rev 20. So:

- Is there something I'm doing wrong?
- What rev of the driver does MacPup use?
- Does someone have another suggestion?

Thanks in advance!
