Thanks homershines. As I mentioned earlier, I will be able to get back to Pritlog in a couple of weeks from now to continue development. Thanks for your suggestions.

Alex & Prit.

I'm a newbie learning the ropes. I really like this thread. Really good ideas.

Pritlog is so good now, that it deserves to be better.
It deserves a larger user base as well.

As for the flat file forum, that's a great thing. There are a few out there, but development has stopped on most of them and they have security issues. Frankly, I thought the PritBB sample looked and behaved wonderfully. I'd use it. There was a simplicity to it that appealed to me and could easily be merged into or along with most designs.

I would just add that it would be great if there were instructions for theme editing or design. Pritlog could also allow the admin to edit the dates of entries and allow for different themes on different pages or categories.

Thanks and looking forward.

Hi Alex .. I suggested the hard coding to test if this is working for your installation. Ofcourse, I am not going to add such hard coding to Pritlog. When this gets into Pritlog, it would be a "run anywhere" solution.

Can you make this change to the plugins/nicUpload.php and test it?

Replace the following line:

define('NICUPLOAD_PATH', '../data/'.$_SESSION['user'].'/pictures');

Yes, some kind of menu ordering. But that is not very important right now. the important thing is to get rid of the bugs and add media capability. "pikachoose, fg gallery, jw player"

cheers !

the way i know this is because i had a simple website with very particular meta key words. For months I had the meta generated by NanoCMS, and google was not hitting it in the search.

After months and months, I changed the meta manualy and hard inserted them. In a day or two,my sites was showing in google searches.

I am upload images with NiceEdit Upload function. It creates the image and I can see the images on the main page (posts not opened), but when i open a post, The images are gone, there are too many ../../ before the url or the image. If I change the images to full path, then it's ok, they show, but whenever I move the image inside niceedit, he puts back the relative path again.

please, go and see for yourself on my website with the first post

One LAST suggestion is that you should put a "ADD COMMENT" on the main page, next to the number of comments. Because people don't always open up the post to add comment. Just a link that will open the post and scroll to the add comment area, not the hole form.

thank you for reading me !

Thanks a lot Alex for posting your comments, feedback and bug reports on the forum. This way it can be tracked easier. I really appreciate this.

Why not use a forum that uses SQLITE (no need for a mysql backend) ?

I had once posted an experiment of easily converting Pritlog into a forum and since I did not see much interest, I did not work any more on that experiment. You can see the experiment here:
http://hardkap.net/labs/pritbb2/

Pritlog.com being uptodate and curent with download links

I will make sure they have the latest links.

developing plugins and being able to download plugins.

I will add documentation on how to create plugins and anyone interested can create them. I will also make the pikachoose plugin available on a plugin section (that will be created) on the Pritlog site.

There is a problem with niceedit, it adds double : ../../ to images when they are edited. This is fine on main page, but on post page, the url gets screwed.
Pictures are stored Way way deep in the folder structure, it's just too long to write a url for them. There should be a plugin where you can insert images with links to full images automatically created.

Can you tell me how you are adding pictures to the post? Is it through the image upload function within nicEdit or manually? If it is through the internal upload function, then it should automatically create the correct image links without you having to worry about the link.

When you are looking at a tag (let's say all posts having photos as tag), if the tag is generating 2 or more pages of content, if you click on number 2, the url is doubled and you get to a 404. This is a bug.

I will look into this and get back.

On the Bugs Side, I see that the meta description and meta data are entered dynamically by php. This is very easy to do, BUT, google bots don't pick that up. I've noticed that if you want to get into google search engine, you would have to hard code and hard write these metakey data manualy yourself. So an option to make prit turn off inserting meta is good!

How do you know that Google and other bots don't pick the dynamically generated meta's. As far as I understand, If the meta's are generated by PHP code, then the bots have to pickup. If something is generated dynamically by javascript, the bots may or may not pick up.

If I don't insert any Breaks at the end of my post, sometimes, the "comments and stats" that are under each post gets on the same line as pikachoose galleries. Pritlog should enter one or two breaks automatically at least.

I will look into this.

The tags field should have propositions concerning older tags already entered. For example, I don't remember is i entered photos OR photo, with the suggestions, I'm sure of using the same category as before.

Thanks. This is a good suggestion. I will see if this can be done for one of the next releases.

There should be an option, to have some sort of menu (I know some themes offer that) but pritlog should offer that as standard in default theme. Where all the "pages" category posts are posted in a menu. This along with the "remove comments" new feature will enable pritlog to be a nice little CMS as well as a blog system.

Do you mean - some kind of way to administer the menu from the admin panel?

Finaly, a Contact plugin form, where people enter emails and adresses and they can reach us would be Great !!!!! More professional.

I will look into this.

One last thing I found, that's a BUG :
Let's say you write a post, and give it tag1 tag.
If this post is set as PAGE, then when you click on the tag1 tag, it doesn't show. All other posts that are NOT set as pages but have tag1, they show !

I will look into this and get back.

Hi, this is Alex, after prit nagging me to register, I'm finaly here...

Why not use a forum that uses SQLITE (no need for a mysql backend) ?

it's in the same spirit as pritlog !

Otherwise, here are the stuff I think pritlog should have :

Pritlog.com being uptodate and curent with download links

having beta links on homepage, not just on forums

developing plugins and being able to download plugins.

A plugin for pikachoose should be done
Another plugin for SW Player flash should be done
a plugin for managing the pictures should be used, some king of javascript for simple rotate, crop, view and delete in the same principle as pikachoose and jw flash player. Simple and effective

There is a problem with niceedit, it adds double : ../../ to images when they are edited. This is fine on main page, but on post page, the url gets scrwed.

Pictures are stored Way way deep in the folder structure, it's just too long to write a url for them.

There should be a plugin where you can insert images with links to full images automatically created.

When you are looking at a tag (let's say all posts having photos as tag), if the tag is generating 2 or more pages of content, if you click on number 2, the url is doubled and you get to a 404. This is a bug.

I've noticed that if you want to get into google search engine, you would have to hard code and hard write these metakey data manualy yourself. So an option to make prit turn off inserting meta is good!

If I don't insert any Breaks at the end of my post, sometimes, the "comments and stats" that are under each post gets on the same line as pikachoose galleries. Pritlog should enter one or two breaks automatically at least.

The tags field should have propositions concerning older tags already entered. For example, I don't remember is i entered photos OR photo, with the suggestions, I'm sure of using the same category as before.

FG (Folder Gallery) must have a plugin, that way, we can have a page with no comments displayed on the menu, and inside it, the folder gallery plugin. We can have a gallery which will help pritog become a CMS.

Finaly, a Contact plugin form, where people enter emails and adresses and they can reach us would be Great !!!!! More professional.

If you want to take a look at the live beta : http://william dot baroud dot eu/

Ah, yes, that's a simple solution. I admit this blog entry was a bit extraordinary, having only two small images and no text. But that's what a test blog is for, isn't it?

BTW, I enjoyed reading your Blog!

Now I understand the problem. I am not sure if this can be fixed. User can however, hit enough <enter> keys after the image so that the cursor is after the image during edit. I did this on my personal blog here:
http://hardkap.net/blog/index.php?option=mainPage

Hi again Prit,

The problem is, in both cases, that the content gets mixed up with the " subtitles" (= "Posted on 22 Dec 2008 08:55 - Category: Testing
1 Comments - Edit - Delete" ) The "subtitles" are not below the post, but seem to become part of it. I can live with that, just wondering if it's supposed to be this way?

To avoid confusion, these are the two cases:

* http://verbertus.000hosted.com/blog/index.php?option=viewEntry&filename=00006

* http://verbertus.000hosted.com/blog/index.php?option=viewEntry&filename=00012

No, I didn't delete the second picture in the post we're talking about: http://verbertus.000hosted.com/blog/index.php?option=viewEntry&filename=00006

But I made a new post, where I removed the second image, just to see what would happen now.
That post is here: http://verbertus.000hosted.com/blog/index.php?option=viewEntry&filename=00012

Did you actually post any text on this post? And you lost it? Hhmmm, never happened to me. Will need to test and try to reproduce this issue.

Also, when I went to that post, I saw 2 pics. After a refresh, I see only 1 pic. Something strange again? Or did you delete the picture when I was there? ;)

Thanks for adding the plugin.

Yes. This should be better as we can track the progress easily.

I have installed the plugin that you sent through the PM. Lets see if that works. Maybe individual users have to enable it as mentioned on the plugin page.
