I have downloaded Macpup and now I am trying to burn the ISO to a disc, but once I've used the program to burn the ISO it says it has been completed. Then when I enter the disc back into my drive to get a prompt of some sort to install Macpup nothing happens. I do not know if it is even burnt. I think it may be burnt, because I cannot open the disc or anything. Any suggestions on what I am suppose to do? I've also tried restarting the computer then putting the disc in at the screen where it gives options to go to menu F12 and some other options. Suggestions appreciated!

I don't have access to a ppc so I can't really help you with this. I have never heard of anyone getting macpup to run on a ppc. If you got an older version to work , you are the first. You may need to keep using that one.

I have a MAC G4 PPC, os 10.5.8, 2 gigs ram, 1.25 Ghz single processor, and it works very well. The system is not recognizing the cd. I had an older version of macpup open about a year ago. The machine works well, but I noticed on the startup menu, the cd is not recognized either. I installed a new hd drive to be the main boot drive, and did a fresh install of the os. Other than that, nothing was done except maintenance.
I can boot into open firmware. If anyone has any ideas, please tell me. The machine is in excellent condition but is still a ppc, not intel. I really need this to work. In the past, I could run Ubuntu, or Macpup. I do not know why it is not running now. I have an entire hd dedicated to a linux distro. Thanks in advance.J

Transparency requires the comp module or xcomposite. The e17 comp module is very buggy when compiled in puppy .That is why we dont ship it or have it as an extra. It just doesn't work well enough for our use. So sorry.

Right now we don't have any plans for a multi user version. Pizzagood's version is a bit old now.He did a great job but it's out a date.

I can't find any devx.sfs file in the quick pet manager. But the compiler is already installed, i used this instruction: http://hardkap.net/forums/topic/where-is-compiler-and-other-dev-essentials-package#post-1148
I wasn't quite sure which devx.sfs to install. Recently I'm booting the devx_431.sfs.
"make" and "make install" are available and I built fwcutter successfully. fwcutter is also available in the terminal but, as I explained, I'm getting an error extracting the driver.

Could you explain to me the difference between CPU freq "ondemand" and "conservatice"? The temperature of my notebook now is ok with both of these settings but I'd still like to have the best performance. When I choose "conservative" the temp is a little higher during watching films than with "ondemand".

Thanks a lot,
Dominik

There are more members at the site above. I would open a new thread there and see if you get any better responses than here. I don't run broadcom anything. All my chips are either realtek, atheros,or raylink.

Quote from your link:

Note: You need to have a compiler and headers for libc installed, since you will have to build fwcutter from source

This requires the devx.sfs for Puppy 528 to be installed before you can compile anything from source in MacPup 528. It should be in your quick pet package manager.

Thanks for the fast response!
It sounds a bit strange to solve the problem like this but I'll try it.

Meanwhile I installed GCC and tried the way that is described here: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware

I got an error "segmentation fault" during extracting the firmware with the b43-fwcutter.
Since I'm not a native English speaker you could maybe help me or was it better to contact the support of the website mentioned above?

So I visited the website mentioned and downloaded the fwcutter-012 which is required for my card.
Now I've got a basic problem: I don't know how to install the fwcutter...

Another thing is that I don't know, if the failure has something to do with the CPU freq change because there's somethign mentioned like "Clocksource tsc unstable".

I'd be very pleased if someone could help me and maybe explain this terminal basic to me.

First of all you should know that I'm quite a newbie using Linux and I'm really not a terminal expert...
I've got a handful of experience with Ubuntu, but that's it.

Recently I'm running the latest Macpup 528 on a Acer Travelmate 7510 Notebook because it's fast and suitable for tendious tasks. There's also installed Windows 7.
Compared to Windows 7 the Notebook gets exceptionally hot running Macpup. The temp gadget talks about 60° C though the Notebook runs in idle or does light tasks such as text editing.
Using Windows 7 the fan only runs when there are heavier tasks but with Macpup it even runs idling.

Has anyone an idea how to fix the problem?

Thanks a lot,
Dominik
